Marc LABONNETTE - Baryton

Marc Labonnette was born in orleans. He started learning saxophone before studying voice at the conservatory of the 7th arrondissement of Paris where he graduated and won unanimously the First Prize of the city of Paris. After studying two years at the centre de Musique baroque de Versailles, he pursued his higher education at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. He obtained a Master's degree and then received a scholarship to study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. He is perfecting his art with bass Daniel Ottevaere.

He also participated in masterclasses with Ruben Lifschitz, Graham Johnson , Thomas Allen , Malcolm Martineau, François Le Roux, Christa Ludwig, Edda Moser.

After his studies, he was rapidly asked to perform in many concerts. these include Handel's Messiah with Le Parlement de Musique conducted by Martin Gester (chapel of the Trinity, Lyon ), the role of Pluto (Orpheus by Teleman) with Opera Fuoco led by David Stern at the cité de la Musique in Paris, Fauré’s Requiem with the orchestre de bretagne under the direction of Michael thornton, the Saint Matthew Passion by bach conducted by Jean-claude Malgoire, Nelson Mass by Haydn with the Parliament choir of London led by Simon over, sacred works by Charpentier and motets by Campra with Les Folies Françoises conducted by Patrick cohën- akenine (Festival de l' abbaye de Saint-Michel-en-thiérache), a recital with Sir thomas allen accompanied by pianist Malcolm Martineau at the Wigmore Hall in London .

Among the scenic roles he played, he sang the title-role in Verdi's Falstaff, Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro, Golaud in Debussy's Pelleas et Mélisande, bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream by britten with the royal Scottish Academy, the title-role of Idoménée by Campra conducted by Jean-Claude Malgoire, Jupiter in Proserpine by Lully at the Cité de la Musique in Paris and Cadmus in Sémélée by Marin Marais at the Montpellier Opera and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées with Le concert Spirituel under the direction of Hervé Niquet, basilio in Il Barbiere de Siviglia by Paisiello at the buxton Festival, Don alfonso in Così fan tutte with the classical opera company at Salder's Wells in London, the title-role in Offenbach’s Monsieur Choufleuri remains at home and Don Andres de Ribeira in La Périchole by Offenbach at the Venelles Festival, Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni staged by Sir Thomas Allen in Newcastle ; Alidoro in La Cenerentola with the Scottish Opera, Baron Trombonok in Il Viaggio a Reims by Rossini at Grand théâtre de Reims and the Opera of Vichy, Montpellier, Nancy and Saint-Etienne...

Marc Labonnette has already recorded for the alpha label the motets of Henry Du Mont with the ensemble Pierre Robert under the direction of Frederic Desenclos, and for the Glossa label, the roles of Jupiter (Proserpine by Lully) and Cadmus (Sémélée by Marin Marais) with Le concert Spirituel conducted by Hervé Niquet and campra's Requiem with the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles under the direction of Olivier Schneebeli for K617 label .

In 2009, he successfully sang the count de Guiche in Alfano's Cyrano de Bergerac with Placido Domingo and Adamas in La Pastorale by Gerard Pesson at the Théâtre du Châtelet. He then sang a Satyr (Platée by Rameau ) at the Opera Garnier. He then went on tour singing in the Opera Viaggio a Reims at Opera of nancy, theatre du Capitole de Toulouse, Opera of Marseille and bordeaux. He also sang Antonio in The Marriage of Figaro at the Opéra de Lyon and thore in Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels and National Opera of the Rhine in Strasbourg. At the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, he was Ctésippe in Fauré’s Pénélope, with Roberto Alagna and Anna Caterina Antonacci (June 2013).

Among his recent engagements are : The Indian Queen by Purcell with Le concert Spirituel conducted by Hervé Niquet and staged by Joachim Schlömer (Schwetzingen Festival, Opera de Metz in France, basel theater) ; La Princesse de Navarre by Rameau with the Sevilla Baroque Orchestra at Teatro La Maestranza ; Papageno in a young public production of The Magic Flute at the Nice Opera. He sang the role of Wolfram in a French version of Tannhäuser at the Lyrical training center in Auvergne ; the High Priest in Rameau’s Castor and Pollux at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées (Hervé Niquet conducting and Christian Schiaretti directing).

Marc Labonnette is a regular guest of the Opéra de Paris : after singing the role of Baron de Nuncingen in Francesconi’s Trompe-la-Mort under the baton of Susanna Mälkki at the Palais Garnier, he will be Alcindoro in Puccini’s La Bohème with Gustavo Dudamel conducting and the Marchese d’Aubingy in Verdi’s La Traviata at the Opéra Bastille
