OURANOS
Mathilde CALDERINI, flute
Nicolas RAMEZ, horn
Philibert PERRINE, oboe
Rafael ANGSTER, bassoon
The French school of wind instruments enjoys a worldwide reputation, a legitimate reputation if one considers the exceptional personalities who compose it. The young and brilliant Ensemble Ouranos is fully in line with this tradition of excellence. With its superlative individual qualities and exemplary cohesion reinforced by solid bonds of friendship, Ouranos receives the highest praise at each of its appearances and already occupies an enviable place on the current musical scene.
It was under the impetus of clarinettist Amaury Viduvier that five young soloists from the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris came together in 2014 to explore the exciting repertoire of the wind quintet. Driven by their desire to place their instrumental virtuosity - rewarded by numerous international prizes - at the service of ensemble playing, the members of the quintet quickly multiply high-flying artistic collaborations and offer a resolutely personal interpretation of the great classics of the repertoire.
In April 2017, Ensemble Ouranos caused a sensation at the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition, winning the First Prize of the City of Lyon, the Bullukian Foundation Prize and the Yamaha NoMadMusic Internet User Prize. In addition to their work as a quintet, the ensemble regularly gathers around its core some of the best wind instrumentalists of their generation to introduce the public to the great wealth of music for wind ensemble. In October 2019, they won the 1st prize in the prestigious Carl Nielsen Competition, as well as the Prize for the best interpretation of the competition's commission.
Ensemble Ouranos has been in residence at the Singer-Polignac Foundation since September 2014. Since then, it has been a privileged guest of the Easter and Musical August Festivals in Deauville, where it collaborates with exceptional chamber musicians such as Renaud Capuçon, François Salque, Lise Berthaud, Nicholas Angelich, Bertrand Chamayou, or the Quatuor Hermès.
Since its creation, the Ensemble Ouranos has already performed at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Dijon Opera, the Folles journées de Nantes, the Auditorium du Musée de Grenoble, the Flâneries Musicales de Reims, the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier, the Festival Debussy d'Argenton, the Festival de Pâques d'Aix-en-Provence and the Août Musical de Deauville, the Palazetto Bru Zane in Venice, the Fondation Polignac in Paris and the Festival de Besançon.
The first album of the Ouranos ensemble with works by Ligeti, Nielsen and Dvorak was released in autumn 2018 (NoMad Label). They will release a second album in 2020 with, among others, Poulenc's Sextuor and works by Jean Françaix.
