Magali SIMARD GALDÈS
Soprano

Alexandre Pham, Classiquenews Benjamin, Written on Skin – Lille, janvier 2024
Quebec soprano Magali Simard-Galdès stands out for her brilliant, crystalline voice, which she knows how to adorn with heady colours depending on the score. Her vocal mastery and natural musicality allow her to magnify a very wide repertoire ranging from Baroque music, which she particularly loves, to contemporary music, for which she possesses all the precision required.
On the opera stage, Magali commands a celebrated presence and theatrical ease. Her ability to blend into each character allows her to tackle with great success roles as diverse as those of Agnès (Benjamin, Written on Skin), Musetta (Puccini, La Bohème), Micaëla (Bizet, Carmen), Tytania (Britten, A Midsummer Night's Dream), Gilda (Verdi, Rigoletto), Roxane (DiChiera, Cyrano de Bergerac), Constance (Poulenc, Dialogues des Carmélites) and Nicette (Hérold, Le pré aux clercs).
She has performed these roles at the Vancouver and Montreal Operas, Opera Carolina, Toledo Opera, Tapestry Opera and Wexford Festival Opera, as well as at the Cologne Opera, Opéra du Rhin and Auditorium du Nouveau Siècle in Lille.
In concert, she impresses with the same charisma, which has led her to be invited in recent years to perform with specialist ensembles such as Le Concert Spirituel, Le Cercle de l'Harmonie, Les Violons du Roy, Arion Baroque Orchestra and Ensemble Caprice.
With her considerable projection, she also performs regularly with symphony orchestras such as the Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre de chambre de Genève, the Orchestre Classique de Montréal, the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, the Houston Symphony, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, the Orchestre Métropolitain and the Orchestre du Festival Classica in Quebec, under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Jacques Lacombe, Jean-Marie Zeitouni, Bernard Labadie, Hervé Niquet, Jean-François Rivest, Mathieu Lussier, François-Xavier Roth, Jérémie Rhorer and Alexandre Bloch.
Her recent engagements include Handel's The Messiah and Israel in Egypt with Hervé Niquet and Le Concert Spirituel, Boulez's Pli selon Pli with Jonathan Nott and the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, the role of Sophie in Massenet's Werther with Marc Leroy-Calatayud and the Geneva Chamber Orchestra (alongside Pene Patti) and Léonore in Grétry's L'Amant Jaloux with Arion Baroque Orchestra.
The 2025/2026 season will feature important roles such as Micaëla in Carmen at the Opéra de Montréal (Orchestre métropolitain conducted by Jean-Marie Zeitouni and directed by Anna Theodosakis), as well as tours (including Mozart's Requiem with Les Violons du Roy conducted by Bernard Labadie).
Since autumn 2022, Magali, a committed woman, has also been making her voice heard as an environmental columnist on ICI première. She holds a master's degree in management and sustainable development from HEC Montréal.
