Emiliano GONZALEZ TORO
Tenor

Through the beauty of timbre, technical virtuosity and his exceptional ability to bring texts to life, tenor Emiliano Gonzalez Toro is one of the most prominent tenor on the current music scene. If he is sovereign in the Baroque repertoire (French, German or of course Italian Baroque), he is also in great demand in the later repertoire, from Mozart to French opera of the 19th century.
Emiliano Gonzalez Toro sang all the great masterpieces of the 17th and 18th centuries with the greatest ensembles and the greatest conductors. He is, for example, an acclaimed performer of Monteverdi, which he sang exhaustively. Let us simply mention the title role of Orfeo with Ottavio Dantone and Ryo Terakado; Arnalta in Incoronazione di Poppea with Alessandro de Marchi, Emmanuelle Haïm, Christophe Rousset and Ottavio Dantone; Ulisse, Eurimaco and Iro in Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria with Emmanuelle Haïm, Jean-Claude Malgoire, Christophe Rousset, Atilio Cremonesi, Ryo Terakado; Vespers of the Virgin with René Jacobs, Gabriel Garrido, Christina Pluhar and Raphaël Pichon. Cavalli is also one of the composers he sings on the most prestigious stages: let us quote, Iro in Elena in Aix-en-Provence and recently, Lenia in Eliogabalo at the Opera de Paris, or Linfea in La Calisto at the Staatsoper in Munich.
It is to share his immense experience of the Seicento that Emiliano Gonzalez Toro creates with Mathilde Etienne the ensemble I Gemelli, with which they recorded three albums for Naive, Vespro, Orfeo and Soleil Noir, all acclaimed by critics: Choc Classica , Diapason d'or of the year, FFFF Télérama... On 2019, I Gemelli made its debut at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, with a concert version of Orfeo by Monteverdi. On October 2021, Emiliano created Il ritorno d’Ulisse by Monteverdi and will give on May 2023, the Coronation of Poppea, still in Paris at Théâtre des Champs Elysées.
French Baroque opera is Emiliano's other artistic line. Rameau occupies an important place: let us quote the title roles of Platée with Christophe Rousset and Dardanus with Raphaël Pichon; several roles in The Paladins with William Christie. Lully is not absent, however, with for example Roland, Alceste or Phaëton with Christophe Rousset, as well as Sémélé de Marais with Hervé Niquet. On the other hand, his breathtaking virtuosity allows him to approach the most perilous roles of Vivaldi (Aquilo in Farnace under the direction of Diego Fasolis, and recently the role of Vitaliano in Il Giustino with Ottavio Dantone), or Händel – The Messiah with Hervé Niquet or Giuliano in Händel’s Rodrigo with Thibault Noally.
The tenor also invests in the classical repertoire: Agenore in Il Re Pastore (Mozart) with William Christie and Rolando Villazon; the High Priest in Idomeneo with Emmanuelle Haïm then Jérémie Rhorer. He was also hired for operettas and comic operas where he took on roles such as Pomponnet in La Fille de Mme Angot , Piquillo in La Périchole (Lausanne Opera), Trémolini in La Princesse de Trébizonde (Saint-Étienne Opera) and the Count of Comminges in Le Pré-aux-Clercs (Opéra-Comique and Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon).
Among the upcoming projects for the 2022-2023 season, we can mention the stage productions of Mozart Nozze di Figaro at Toulouse Capitole, Incoronazione di Poppea at Opera du Rhin under the batton of Raphaël Pichon. Emiliano will sing Vitaliano in Il Giustino by Vivaldi with Andrea Marcon and La Cetra in Basel and Amsterdam or the role of Mentore in Il Telemaco by Scarlatti still at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Emiliano will meet his ensemble I Gemelli for many concerts: at Festivals of Menton, Pontoise and Musicales de la Moutte in Saint Tropez, Le Brassus, Nice and Avignon, Dortmund, Arsenal in Metz, Geneva and Champs Elysees Theater in Paris.
