Marc LABONNETTE
Baryton

Marc Labonnette is praised for the fullness of his voice, the nobility of his vocal line and the perfection of his diction (especially in French), not to mention his always accurate and lively acting. Not surprisingly, it is on the opera stages that his art fully blossoms.
Marc Labonnette first studied the saxophone before turning to singing. After two years at the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, he entered the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, then the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.
In 2004, he made his stage debut in Idoménée by André Campra under the direction of Jean-Claude Malgoire. He then took on roles such as the Count de Guiche (Cyrano de Bergerac by Alfano), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Golaud (Pelléas et Mélisande), Baron Trombonok (Le Voyage à Reims), Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Bellone, Osman, Huascar, Ali, Adario (Les Indes Galantes)...
He has been invited to the Opéra National de Paris, the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Operas of Bordeaux, Marseille, Nancy, Montpellier, Versailles, Saint-Étienne, Reims or Massy, the Edinburgh Festival, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Sadler's Wells in London, the Buxton Festival, etc.
He sings under the direction of conductors such as Marc Minkowski, Gustavo Dudamel, Michele Mariotti, Susanna Mälkki, Jean-Claude Malgoire, Patrick Fournillier, Jean-Yves Ossonce, Roberto Forès-Veses, Luciano Acocella, Christophe Coin, Daniele Callegari, Hervé Niquet, David Stern and Patrick Cohen-Akenine.
Marc Labonnette, whose musical and vocal flexibility has often been praised, has made a strong impression in scores as diverse as Purcell's The Indian Queen at the Schwetzingen Festival, La Serva Padrona (Pergolesi) and Nélé et Myrthis (Rameau) at the Clermont-Ferrand Opera, and Castor et Pollux by Rameau at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (Sancho Pança) under the direction of Hervé Niquet at the Opéra de Metz, the Opéra de Versailles, the Opéra de Montpellier, the Théâtre de Compiègne and Mexico-City, Falstaff (Ford) at the Festival de Saint-Céré and at the Centre lyrique de Clermont-Auvergne, Purcell's King Arthur at the Opéra Royal de Versailles with Hervé Niquet.
A regular guest of the Opéra National de Paris, Marc Labonnette participated with great success in the premiere of Luca Francesconi's Trompe-la-Mort (the Baron de Nucingen).
Subsequently, France's premier opera house invited him to play Alcindoro in Puccini's La Bohème under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, then Aubigny in Verdi's La Traviata under the direction of Michele Mariotti at the Palais Garnier.
The other opera houses in France also appreciate his art: Sulpice in Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment at the Avignon Opera under the direction of Corinne and Gilles Benizio.
Let us not forget the melody, to which Marc Labonnette does justice, with in particular recitals devoted to Beethoven and Schumann alongside pianist Denis Pascal.
The 2022-23 season will see Marc Labonnette take part in a number of projects, including several opera productions: he will be Le Dancaïre in Bizet's Carmen at the Paris Opera; Prosper in O my beautiful stranger by Hahn at the Opéra de Tours. He will also be the Thief Chanteleine in La Vieille Maison by Marcel Landowski at the Opéra de Nantes. At the end of the season, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris will welcome him for two productions: Alcindoro in Manon by Puccini and Saint Sulpice in La Fille du Régiment by Donizetti.
